根據市場研究機構資策會產業情報研究所 (MIC)調查指出，台灣網友擁有智慧型手機的比例，從2011年的38.3%，提升至今年的73.6%，使用手機上網的比例從2011年的41.1%，今年大增至79.2%，也同時帶動社群、即時通訊、閱讀、遊戲等行動應用服務的發展。
